Structured for our clients to succeed

Lakeshore Securities Inc. is an independent, privately owned investment management firm.
In its role as a trusted fiduciary Lakeshore provides advisory and portfolio management services to individuals and their families, corporations, foundations and institutional investors.

Personally invested

Lakeshore stakeholders have their financial capital, human capital and livelihoods invested in the firm. This drives our strong sense of personal accountability to our clients. Our success is dependent on the success of our clients. We strive to deliver the services and advice they need and deserve while adhering to the highest fiduciary standards – part and parcel of our client-first ethos.

Fiercely independent

We built Lakeshore to be free of conflicts of interest. At Lakeshore there are no proprietary products or axes to grind. We provide objective and impartial advice, purely in the best interests of our clients.

A relationship of trust

Nurturing deep client relationships and keeping their needs at the forefront has allowed us to build our business on client referrals. As an IIROC registered firm and with National Bank as our custodian, we are aligned with financial institutions that set high-quality regulatory and investment industry standards to protect investors and ensure that client assets remain safe.

Delivering
customized solutions
that serve our
clients

Lakeshore Managed Account

As investment managers, we structure and manage custom portfolio solutions in the best interests of our clients so they can devote their time to what matters most to them. Our compensation comes in the form of a set fee for managing assets as opposed to transaction-based commissions, further aligning our success with that of our clients.

Lakeshore Multi-Manager Account

For investors seeking access to third-party investment management expertise, we structure portfolios using carefully selected outside managers that we monitor on an ongoing basis to ensure that performance results are in line with client investment objectives, capital market conditions and our stringent internal standards.

Lakeshore Market Making Services

Lakeshore provides specialized services to listed companies with securities traded on Canadian stock exchanges. Current market structures and algorithmic-driven trading strategies can create challenging conditions, particularly in the case of smaller-capitalization companies and/or less liquid stocks. Our traders act as gatekeepers and a stabilizing presence, actively participating in daily trading to mitigate against unwarranted share-price volatility due to a lack of volume and assisting in the development of a deeper and continuous two-sided market that is visible and tradeable.

Leadership at Lakeshore

Lakeshore’s founders are experienced investment professionals with a long track record of working together to benefit clients and employees.

William Podolsky, Portfolio Manager, is President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors. He founded Lakeshore Securities in January 2000 following 17 years of investment industry experience. During that time he gained deep insights into firm structures and operating models best suited to balancing interests within client-driven investment management organizations. In addition to managing client portfolios and relationships as he has done on a continuous basis since 1983, he is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the firm and its management team.

Todd Rohne, CPA, is Chief Financial Officer, Chief Compliance Officer and a member of the Board of Directors. He is responsible for all aspects of regulatory compliance at Lakeshore, including financial compliance, business conduct and trading conduct compliance. As a senior Officer, he also provides managerial oversight on the firm’s day-to-day operating activities. He joined Lakeshore in 2006 and has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, with expertise in finance, compliance and operations.

Shawn Gonneau, Portfolio Manager, is Executive Vice-President and a member of the Board of Directors. He is responsible for structuring and managing client portfolios and relationships, and guides both the strategic direction of the firm and its daily operations. His industry experience dates back to 2006.

The Lakeshore advisor advantage

A flat organizational structure, entrepreneurial spirit and an open-door policy with the leadership team are just some of the reasons Investments Advisors (IAs) enjoy working at Lakeshore Securities. As an IIROC member firm, Lakeshore operates within the strict set of regulatory compliance standards established by Canada’s most stringent investor protection regime, and client assets are safeguarded by a federally regulated Canadian chartered bank, global fiduciary standards and insurance coverages as provided under The Canadian Investor Protection Fund.

Big bank resources,
independent firm nimbleness
Our contractual arrangement with National Bank Independent Network (NBIN) effectively means that we have the full resources of a Schedule A Canadian chartered bank backing up our service delivery platform. It also means that Lakeshore IAs can stay attuned to understanding client needs with the freedom and capability to move quickly, provide customized solutions and the best advice possible.

Business-owner mindset

IAs who partner with Lakeshore retain ‘ownership’ in their book of business and manage their client relationships as they see fit in their roles as investment professionals. There are no sales or production quotas, no pressures to push products or services and no incentives of any kind impeding the ability of a Lakeshore advisor to provide an exceptional client experience.

Seamless succession planning

A critical planning step in preparing for the future, Lakeshore offers customized solutions and internal financing to help IAs ensure a smooth transition for their business and their clients.

Client-centric culture

We promote a collegial work environment where cultural fit matters as much as financial fit. Our IAs share our emphasis on personalized service and putting clients first.  They are motivated to collaborate with peers and colleagues to arrive at better solutions for our clients and our firm.

Investor protection and safety
of client assets is paramount

Lakeshore Securities is among a select group of approximately 200 investment firms that qualify for membership with the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC). We belong to the same ‘club’ as bank-owned dealers and play by the same rules. Clients of IIROC-member firms are protected by the highest regulatory standards available to Canadian investors. Physical possession and custody of Lakeshore client assets is maintained and safeguarded by NBIN, a division of National Bank of Canada and a separate legal entity from Lakeshore Securities. There are no circumstances under which Lakeshore client assets are co-mingled with firm assets.
